3803 Stuck Outer Bearing Race Remover (Broken, Split, Collapsed Bearing Ring Puller) for bearing races with an inside diameter of 18mm

This tool is an effective way of removing stuck outer bearing races after a bearing has split apart.

Bearings can split during removal for a variety of reasons; if the balls inside the bearing are excessively corroded or worn, or if the inner race is cracked, then failure is possible. Angular contact bearings, historically favoured by some brands such as Santa Cruz and Canyon, are very strong in the direction that they are pressed into the frame but very weak in the direction of removal, and sometimes split during removal.

When a bearing splits apart it can be difficult to remove the remaining outer race from the frame or hub. The traditional methods are either to tap out the race with a screwdriver or to grind out the race with a Dremel. Both of these options risk damage to the frame or hub. Our tool provides a safe and convenient way to grip the stuck race making removal easy.

Product FAQs

What is the best bearing press for mountain bike pivot bearings?

We sell tailored bearing press kits and bearing puller kits, each made to fit your specific model of bike. These kits include the exact tools you'll need to install or remove your bikes pivot bearings, ensuring that you get the sizes you need and nothing more, reducing costs. For general kits, the Enduro BRT-060 Pivot Bearing Press is widely regarded as the gold-standard tool by mechanics and serious home wrenchers. Designed in California, it includes drifts for the most common MTB pivot sizes (6900, 6901, 6902, MAX-type, etc.).

Will this bearing press work with my bike’s pivot bearings?

Yes, almost every full-suspension mountain bike from the last 10+ years uses the same family of pivot bearing sizes. The Enduro BRT-060 comes complete with the adapters needed for Santa Cruz, Yeti, Pivot, Ibis, Trek, Specialized, Transition, and virtually every other major brand. No extra pieces required.

Can I install pivot bearings at home without damaging my frame?

It’s definitely possible with the right tool and technique. Hammer-and-socket methods frequently cock bearings and can damage frames. Proper bearing press or bearing puller toolkits like our tailored kits or the Enduro BRT-060 lets you install/remove bearings straight and controlled, but it still requires care, patience, and watching a few good tutorials first. That said, we always recommend that bearings only be replaced by a trained professional.

Is a bearing press worth it for DIY pivot rebuilds?

We found that most pivot bearing toolkits on the market were either too expensive and/or didn't have all the sizes needed for DIY, thats why we created our extensive library of affordable bearing press and bearing puller toolkits that are each tailored for your specific bike-model. This way you know it has the right sizes and because it only contain's the tools you need, its affordable. That said, we always recommend bearings be installed by a trained professional.
